History of Manchester United

At first, the club was named Newton Heath L & YR FC which was established in 1878.

The name later changed to Manchester United in 1902.

The Red Devils won the first title in 1908.

But the new MU experiencing sustained success in the 1950s, after handled by legendary manager Sir Matt Busby.

Busby is able to provide three titles in the decade of the 50s, and made the first English club Manchester United compete in the European Cup, where they lost in the semi-final by Real Madrid in 1957.

The club experienced a profound sorrow in 1958 when the plane carrying the team home from a European game crashed, killing eight players in the tragedy known as the Munich air disaster.

Busby, who survived the crash, along with the biggest players of the club, Sir Bobby Charlton, trying to rebuild the team.

With the support of some players such as George Best and Denis Law, MU won two league titles in the 60s, before claiming their first European Cup, beating Benfica in the final in 1968.

After Busby resigned in 1969, no manager can approach its success until Ferguson arrived in 1986.

For nearly three decades of dealing with Manchester United, Ferguson has built a phenomenal record that brings MU won more league titles than Liverpool.
